Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung
In the most recent Google-China dispute, Google threatens to quit the country. If I am the Chinese government, I would say go ahead. Quit China; I dont need you here.
We Indonesians know, that we are taught in elementary school, this phrase: "Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung". Which basically means we have to respect the laws where we live.
If the West can introspect, that not everyone should follow their way of doing things, the world is a much better, peaceful place. As a simple analogy, if I have a friend, do I keep telling him (and other people) that the way he treated his children is wrong? Do I keep telling him that the way I raise my children are the best, modern, and universal way?
Anyway, if Google cant respect the laws, the culture, and the country where it operates, it should just leave. It doesnt have much market share, and leaving will create sensations, which might be good for Google's marketing image in the West. But I wish Sergey Brin have learned the simple phrase "Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung" when he was a kid.
